There’s so much to do in the capital over the long Eid weekend…

With the Holy Month of Ramadan coming to a close, Eid Al Fitr is upon us. Eid Al Fitr is also called the ‘Festival of Breaking the Fast’ and is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide, which marks the end of the Islamic month of fasting.

To mark the occasion of Eid Al Fitr 2019, many private sectors across the country might enjoy an extra-long weekend while the public sector will have the entire week off.

If you’re not jetting off for the holidays and staying in the country, we’ve rounded up a list of things you and the entire family can enjoy.

Here are 8 things to do during the long Eid Al Fitr holidays…

1. See the Eid Al Fitr fireworks on Yas Island

Gather your family, head to Yas Island and be ready to be dazzled by the spectacular firework display. Get an unobstructed view of the fireworks when you dine at Cipriani, or try one of the many other restaurants at Yas Island. You can also see the fireworks on board a traditional dhow that offers one-hour tours around Yas setting sail just before the scheduled time of the fireworks, which begin at 9pm.

2. Spend time at The Galleria

The Galleria Al Maryah Island is hosting a never-before-seen photography exhibition on the Year Of Tolerance. It began during Ramadan but you will be able to view during Eid Al Fitr as well. The mall will also host themed activities from 3pm to 10pm with traditional Ayyalah performers and arts and crafts activities. If you happen to be one of the first 100 visitors you will win souvenirs such as personalised Arabic calligraphy and bespoke sand bottle creations.

3. Indulge in a beach brunch at Zaya Nurai

Frangipani at Zaya Nurai is hosting a beach brunch brimming with  island treats the weekend of Eid Al Fitr on June 7. There will also be a DJ performing live for you while you enjoy your meal in an exquisite shoreside setting. There are three packages for you to choose from and the brunch starts at noon and ends at 4pm.

4. Watch family-friendly films for free at Louvre Abu Dhabi

During the weekend of Eid Al Fitr, Louvre Abu Dhabi will be screening a series of five animated movies that revolve around the theme of tolerance, family and unity. The series which has been curated by Rinku Awtani is linked to the museum’s current exhibition ‘Children’s Museum: Animals, Between Real and Imaginary’. Films will be screened in the auditorium from June 6 to 8 and admission is free but you need to pre-book your seats.

5. Parents, get a meal for your child when you dine here

Enjoy a meal on the house at Cascade Entertainment & Dining for your child (under 12 years) when you purchase a main course at Al Fanar, Dish Dash, Cafe Bateel, Chili’s, Black Tap, Galitos, Bucca Di Beppo or Burger Fuel. 6. Head to Ferrari World for Roller Coaster Rally

Roller Coaster Rally is back at Ferrari World, so take advantage of the Eid holiday and check it out. On the first day of Eid, the park’s timings will extend to midnight and there will be free entry to the park at 6pm.  Tickets for a ride are set at Dhs60 but for just Dhs100 you can enjoy unlimited access to all rides. Hungry? There are plenty of options available at the Officer’s Food Quarters whether it’s a quick bite or a sit down meal. There will also be a DJ, roaming entertainment and shows at the La Piazza stage. You can get some shopping in.

7. Catch DJ Ash at Buddha-Bar Abu Dhabi

DJ Ash has performed in San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Switzerland and Cairo and he will be performing in the capital over the Eid holidays on June 5 and 6. The DJ who hails from Cairo fuses melodic Middle Eastern sounds and deep house but is also fantastic on the guitar, saxophone, drums and keyboards. He will begin performing at 9pm.

 8. Get some (or a lot) of shopping done at Yas Mall

Head to Yas Mall on June 5 where there will be a 24-hour mega sale going on. Expect incredible offers, discounts and if your shopping for the day amounts to more than Dhs1,000, you will receive a Yas Mall gift card loaded with your total VAT amount. You can get this sorted at any of the customer service desks in the mall. The mall will be open for 24 hours starting from 10am on June 5 to 10am on June 6.
