Heads up, commuters, here’s what you need to know

If Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station is part of your daily commute, listen up: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has just announced a temporary closure of the station’s bus and taxi service road, and it’s sticking around until the end of 2026.

Why? The road is being shut to make way for a major station expansion, which is set to make your commute even more seamless. Once complete, the upgrade will boost passenger capacity by 65 per cent, taking hourly capacity from 7,250 to a whopping 12,320 passengers, with daily handling capacity climbing to 220,000.

In the meantime, though, expect some shuffling around one of the city’s busiest transit hubs.

What’s changing: The bus and taxi service road at the station will be off-limits to regular traffic, it’s now reserved strictly for construction vehicles.

Getting there: The RTA has rolled out an integrated traffic management plan so metro users can still reach the station with minimal disruption. Just follow the directional signage and stick to posted speed limits while you’re in the area.

Parking: Motorists are being redirected to alternative parking areas, which have been marked by the RTA.

Pro tip: Give yourself extra time. The RTA is urging commuters to start journeys early during the construction period — especially if you’re headed to Downtown Dubai, Dubai Mall or Burj Khalifa, all major draws for this station.

Until: End of 2026
