Asia’s largest mixed martial arts event is coming to Dubai for what is being hailed as the biggest of its kind in history.
The ONE Fighting Championship’s ‘Reign Of Champions’ showcase will kick off at the Dubai World Trade Centre on August 29, featuring a number of the sports’ leading stars.
World champion Shinya Aoki will make his first title defence against veteran Kamal Shalorus of Iran, while superstar Roger Huerta will return to action against the undefeated Christian Holley. Featherweights Herbert Burns and Hiroshige Tanaka also featur, as well as former WBO and IBA boxing champion Ana Julaton. The 34-year-old Californian is going up against Irina Mazepa, a wushu and kickboxing champion. Nicknamed ‘The Hurricane’, Julaton is the first Filipina boxer to win the women’s WBO Super Bantamweight and IBA Super Bantamweight World Championships.
The newly-announced bouts support the main event title showdown between Ben Askren and Nobutatsu Suzuki.
Speaking at the announcement, ONE FC Victor Cui said: “Reign of Champions is set to be the biggest night in the history of mixed martial arts. It features some of the greatest mixed martial artists from all over the world.
“Shinya Aoki is the greatest grappler in mixed martial arts but he will be tested when he takes on Kamal Shalorus, who has been on a tear since joining us. Fans are in store for a historic night featuring world class and adrenaline-pumping mixed martial arts action.”
