The Eurodance legends are making their return to Dubai this weekend…

Twenty years after making their debut into the music scene, Eurodance group Vengaboys are headed to Zero Gravity this weekend. The dance act, made famous in the late 90s and early 00s will play a free gig at beach club Zero Gravity on Thursday October 18.

Known for their irresistibly catchy hits including Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom, We Like To Party and We’re Going To Ibiza the Eurodance act have sold more than 25 million albums worldwide.

The brainchild of two Dutch producers, Vengaboys was fist formed in 1997 as a four-piece act. Two decades, three albums and a line-up shake up that has seen one original member depart, one new one arrive, and one member arrive to depart several years later, and you’ve got yourself a guaranteed evening of dance floor filling his.

Ahead of their return to Dubai, we caught up with Robin Pros from the band to talk music, Dubai, and meeting Madonna.

What’s On: You’re heading back to Dubai for the first time since 2014, what can we expect from your performance?
Robin Pors: Well you can expect the Vengaboys having a party you will never forget. We are so very excited to come to Dubai because we think it’s an amazing city. We had a gig in Dubai in 2000 and I believe it was one of the first big concerts there ever, so we can’t wait to come back. It’s going to be a party with our biggest hits and a lot more.

WO: Where’s your favourite place to perform around the world?
RP:
Dubai is very high on that list, and New York would have to be on there, too. I love big cities where the sun is always shining.

WO: What’s been your career highlight?
RP:
Meeting Madonna and Mariah Carey. We had a big arena tour with Steps in the UK last year and we performed at the O2 in London. It’s an amazing venue.

WO: What do you think it is about the Vengaboys that has allowed you to remain so popular over the last two decades?
RP:
That’s a very difficult question because it still surprises and amazes me that the records continue to be played on the radio, in clubs and at festivals. What started out as just a funny decision to make a record is still be such a big thing all over the world.

WO: What are your plans for the future?
RP: We’re going to keep dancing and keep having a party for at least another ten years.

WO: If you’ve got any spare time in Dubai, where will you be spending it?
RP:
We’re going to do a lot of touristy things, we want to go to plenty of beach club parties, soak up some sun and of course see the Burj Khalifa, I’m always so impressed by Dubai.
