Charity, or ‘zakat’, is one of the most important aspects of Ramadan and one of the pillars of the Islamic faith. Whether you’re donating your time or money, there are plenty of charities in the UAE that need your help.

DUBAI CARES
Launched in 2007 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Cares aims to improve children’s access to education in developing countries. Since its formation, it has helped more than seven million children in 28 countries. As well as accepting donations, the organisation is looking for volunteers.

ADOPT-A-CAMP
This fantastic cause has been working with the UAE’s labourers for the past eight years, offering them a better quality of life through educational classes, scholarships and excursions, as well as providing vital aid to camps that have been abandoned by employers. The charity runs various initiatives throughout the year and is always looking for donations of money and essential items, as well as volunteers.

OPERATION SMILE
This pioneering Abu Dhabi-based charity provides hope to children born with facial disfigurements, such as cleft lip and cleft palate. Founded in 1982, the charity has provided free reconstructive surgery and follow-up care for more than 200,000 children and young adults around the world. To carry on this work, Operation Smile needs both donations and skilled medical volunteers for further missions around the region.
