What’s On has details about Dubai Design District – d3. See videos of the latest hip development in Dubai.
Developers of the new home for hipsters, tech start-up companies, up and coming fashion designers and pop-up cafes just announced its Phase Two plans, setting creative tongues wagging across the emirate.
This follows the the hugely successful three-day weekend event held last month to introduce the exciting new creative design hub where global musicians, innovative food and lifestyle concepts as well as talented local designers came together in force for a special Meet d3 moment.
The new neighbourhood being built entirely from scratch rests in the shadows of Downtown Dubai and is set to become a mix office space with major brand flagship stores and small boutiques with galleries, workshops and artists’ studios.
The hipsterfication of this once empty desert space aims to follow in the footsteps of hugely successful design destinations including New York’s meatpacking district but more significantly London’s Shoreditch area – a step that is being welcomed by the local creative community in Dubai.

The new video uploaded yesterday illustrates how the design district will be developed from the ground up. New designers will occupy showroom units alongside each other. Over time, the number of units will increase and a creative community will grow organically, eventually leading to units stacking on top of each other, creating courtyard spaces below and roof terraces above.
COO of d3, Mohammad Al Shehhi said: “d3’s creative community will help foster a growth of the UAE’s design industry by acting as a dedicated destination for all things design, fashion, art and luxury”
Phase Two is expected to officially open in 2017 providing an incubator for emerging local designers and artists, as well as an organic environment for art galleries and studios to showcase their pieces.
