Dubai's beaches will soon be patrolled by all-female rescue teams
Ok, so it’s probably not going to be anything like Baywatch but it will at least make our beaches even safer…
Dubai Police has announced that it is currently in the process of assembling all-female rescue teams that will be tasked with patrolling Dubai’s beaches.
The move was revealed during a joint press conference with Dubai Municipality held earlier this week announcing the launch of a beach safety campaign that will run for a period of two months.
According to The Khaleej Times, there are currently 12 women undergoing emergency response training, with plans to increase that number to 18 by the end of the year. While one can’t help but cast aspersions to the popular ’90s TV show Baywatch, the introduction of all-female rescue teams will no doubt give Dubai Police more flexibility in time-critical emergency situations, allowing them to help save more lives.
The safety campaign is designed to no only safeguard beachgoers against drowning, but also to put the kibosh on crimes such as theft and harassment.
It was revealed during the press conference that 300 people have been rescued from drowning-related case since the start of 2018, with the police working to reduce the number of cases to zero this summer.
