Huda Kattan cancels Dubai Mall appearance over security concerns
We love her matte lipsticks as much as the rest of them, but this?
It looks like local beauty expert, makeup mogul and Instagram star Huda Kattan has far more star power in this city than Kim Kardashian – as, while the Hollywood star has managed to make appearances at Dubai Mall without a hitch, Kattan had to cancel her meet and greet at the mega-mall yesterday due to “due to extremely high safety and security concerns“.
Why? Well the crowds who came to see the the star, who has 19 million followers on Insta’, were simply too big – here’s a video from Kattan’s Instagram showing the crowds five hours before her appearance at Sephora:
The throngs of people might also have had something to do with the fact that Kattan promised the first 40 people in line to see her Dhs6,500 worth of beauty products (which is perhaps why people got there so early).
In one video, fans can be seen screaming, with security staff using whistles in an attempt to keep the crowds under control.
The line-up for the meet and greet was supposed to start at 5pm, but the crowds arrived at around lunch time. The star was supposed to launch her new highlighter palette at 7pm in the mall.
“I can’t stop crying,” the blogger told fans via an Instagram story after she had to cancel.
Here is Kattan’s full statement from Instagram:
“Hi my loves, I’m very, very sad to announce that due to extremely high safety and security concerns we have been forced to cancel tonight’s Meet & Greet. Dubai Mall is one of the most visited and safest places in the world, which is why crowd control was very important! There are way too many people waiting at Sephora and we are above capacity limits according to health and safety regulations??? I have been counting down for this event for over a month and I’ve really been looking forward to meeting you all! Words can’t describe how sad I am ? I’m really sorry to everyone who planned on coming out tonight but this is beyond our control. Your safety is our main priority and we can’t compromise it under any circumstances! ♥️ You have no idea how sad I am about this, but again – I want you all to be safe! Thank you so much for all your love and support, ILYSM ♥️”
Kattan has more than 19 million Instagram followers, and was recently named the third-most powerful beauty star in the world in Forbes’ first-ever compilation of influencers. She launched her makeup line, Huda Beauty, in 2013.
