Amazon Prime launches in the UAE

Following the official launch of Amazon.ae on May 1, Amazon has now announced the launch of Amazon Prime in the UAE. With more than 100 million paid members, amazon.ae/prime – which is available now in the UAE in both in English and Arabic (a world-first for Amazon) – gives customers access to Amazon Prime Video, free shipping, exclusive deals on Prime Day, Amazon’s global deal-shopping event, and a variety of other Amazon-specific services. UAE residents will either get to sign up for a yearly subscription of Dhs140, or sign up for limited-time offer of Dhs12 per month until October 31 (Dhs16 per month thereafter).

Rap superstar Eminem to perform in Abu Dhabi

Rap superstar Eminem will play a massive Abu Dhabi show at Yas Island’s Du Arena on October 25 as part of his Kamakaze World Tour. This marks seven years since his last performance in the UAE, which was part of the F1 after-race concerts back in 2012. From humble beginnings to mega-stardom Marshall Mathers III has produced some of the most iconic rap of his generation including Lose Yourself, Not Afraid, The Real Slim Shady and Without Me, won more awards than most artists could dream of, and developed some serious talent in the form of 50 cent and D12.

Dubai Airports to eliminate single-use plastic by 2020

Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central Airport (DWC) have pledged to eliminate single-use plastic from the majority of businesses by January 1, 2020. The announcement came as part of the airport’s World Environment Day celebrations, along with a host of other environmentally-friendly initiatives that they have launched. In a video, DXB announced that they are working with 106 of their retail and hospitality partners to ensure that plastic waste is reduced as much as possible.

It looks like Dubai might be getting this 360-degree skyscraper pool

British pool architects, Compass Pools, have designed the world’s first 360-degree infinity pool intended to be built on the rooftop of a 55-storey building. The designers had hoped the pool would be approved for a new building in London, UK but it seems now that they also have their sights set on Dubai. Technical director Alex Kemsley said in a video, “We’re in talks with a super-luxe hotel chain and developers in the UK and Dubai to actually make this happen, which is very exciting.” The acrylic edge gives 360-degree views of the city from 220 metres high, just imagine seeing Dubai from above – but also underwater.

The 1975 to perform at Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena in August

Indie pop rockers The 1975 have just been announced as the next act to grace the stage at Dubai’s new Coca-Cola Arena. The four-pice British band will take to the stage on Wednesday August 14, with tickets on sale now, priced from Dhs200 and available from the1975dxb.com. The band, consisting of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Matthew “Matty” Healy, lead guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer George Daniel, will come to Dubai as part of their world tour, which commenced earlier this year.

More shows added for Phantom of the Opera this autumn

It’s largely regarded as one of the most popular musicals in the world, and this October The Phantom of the Opera is set to make its Dubai debut. Taking to the stage at Dubai Opera in Autumn of 2019, the show will run for three weeks from Wednesday October 16 until November 6. Due to its immense popularity, the show’s organisers added an extra week. The additional tickets will be available from June 13 and prices start at Dhs250.

Kylie Minogue confirmed to perform at Dubai Rugby Sevens 2019

If you’ve been wondering who the Dubai Rugby Sevens headliner will be this year and just can’t get it out of your head, we’re here (especially) for you! Australian-British pop sensation, Kylie Minogue, has been confirmed as the headline performer on Friday December 6 at the Sevens Stadium. The Grammy Award winning artist will have fans Spinning Around from 9.30pm after the second day of the world-famous tournament. Tickets for the event on Friday December 6 will cost Dhs400 or Dhs500 for the whole weekend.
