Abu Dhabi has been named the safest city in the world
The capital has come out on top for the second year in a row.
Great news, people of Abu Dhabi – you are officially living in the world’s safest city.
The UAE’s capital has come out on top for the second year running in a ranking by Numbeo, a website that curates user-contributed data about cities and countries all over the world.
“Safety is paramount when choosing a city to visit or live and work in and we are proud to be the top of the list for the second year running,” said Saif Saeed Ghobash, undersecretary at the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism.
“Our capital’s strong reputation for safety and a virtually crime-free society is a testament to the ongoing efforts to establish the emirate as a destination of distinction with international standards of safety. And we hope that adds to all visitors and residents of Abu Dhabi enjoying their time and making the most of our renowned Emirati hospitality.”

The index ranked 338 cities and is an estimation of overall safety levels in any given city or a country. Any city with a crime index below 20 is considered very safe – and Abu Dhabi had a crime index of just 11.74.
Abu Dhabi was followed by Doha (Qatar), Osaka (Japan), Singapore, and Basel (Switzerland). Neighbouring emirate Dubai was ranked the 11th safest city with a crime index of 18.20.
The most dangerous cities in the world, according to the ranking, were San Pedro Sula (Honduras), Caracas (Venezuela), Fortaleza (Brazil), Durban and Johannesburg (both South Africa).
