Organisers confirmed on Sunday they had broken the Guinness World Record for the longest graffiti scroll at 2.2454km.

In celebration of the 43rd National Day of the UAE, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, issued a directive to organise a new culture and art project titled ‘Rehlatna’ (Our Journey).

Iconic UAE landmarks, Arabic calligraphy and the UAE’s most precious flora and fauna were just some of the images featured in the creation made for the world’s longest graffiti wall which can be seen at Jumeirah Beach Park. The Rehlatna mural brought together the talents of 150 national and international graffiti artists, involving 7,000 spray paint cans, to create artwork that reflects the achievements of the UAE. According to the Office of the Crown Prince of Dubai, who are behind the project: ”Rehlatna will serve as a unique ‘documentary’ with a contemporary artistic vision, highlighting the progress of The Union and merging the efforts of a number of distinctive graffiti artists from across the world who will apply their talents while working on a creative platform alongside their peers from the Arab world, including renowned Emirati artists.”

Guinness World Record adjudicator Praveen Patel said it took more than an hour to measure the entire artwork.

“I saw the history of UAE and I know from the air it looks like the map of the UAE. Because the art is so brilliant, it was a wonderful journey,” Patel told a local newspaper.

“It was an absolutely fantastic effort by a multi-national team of graffiti artists. And to put them together to produce a single piece, that’s phenomenal. I haven’t seen any record like this.”

The record-breaking graffiti wall is open to public viewing until Saturday December 6 from 10am to 5pm at Jumeirah Beach Park.
