Several roads will be closed throughout the night on 31 December ahead of Dubai’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.

To ensure smooth celebrations, Dubai Police has announced traffic arrangements for the city’s NYE events.

RTA is all set for traffic management on New Year’s Eve:

All roads to Downtown will be closed from 8pm on December 31 to 12.30am the following day while Burj Khalifa metro station will be closed from 10pm tonight. However, all other metro stations will be open continuously from New Year’s Eve until Saturday 2 January. Anyone heading to the main celebrations at the Burj Khalifa via Dubai International Financial Centre, Business Bay and Burj Khalifa metro stations will have access to walkways leading to the festivities.

Main closures

4pm: Al Asayel Street will be closed to traffic and will be used as a path of public transport and VIPs.

6pm: Sheikh Mohammed Boulevard in Downtown Dubai will be closed.

6pm: Al Saada Road leading to the Burj Khalifa area will be closed.

8pm: Access to the Zabeel intersection on Al Saada Street will also be closed.

10pm: The roundabout leading to Emirates Towers from Al Saada road will be closed.

10pm to 6am: The Burj Khalifa Metro station will be closed.

Fireworks timings

The city celebrations begin at the stroke of midnight as fireworks take off in Downtown Dubai from the iconic Burj Khalifa – where visitors can watch the show from specially allocated viewing points in Burj Park – before more fireworks set off from the Boulevard’s residential rooftops, travelling across the coast towards the Burj Al Arab for another spectacular fireworks display at approximately 12.09am. Finally at 12.16am, the fireworks culminate at JBR, for a show stopping display lighting up Dubai Marina’s night sky.
