With heaps of activities and themed laps to help you stick it out for the full time period…

The month-long Dubai Fitness Challenge wraps up this weekend and we expect to see a far fitter populace wandering about the city as a result.

If you’re looking for a special event to close out the 30-days then allow us to point you in the direction of Relay For Life, a 24-hour walkathon set to take place at the Sharjah American University on Friday 17 November 2017.

The event is organised by the Friends of Cancer Patients Society and is designed to help raise awareness and funds for cancer sufferers and their families – a great cause indeed.

By making the walk an overnight affair (it will run from 3pm on Friday until 3pm on Saturday), organisers aim to show what it’s like for those whose are unable to sleep due to the physical pain caused by cancer, engendering a sense of empathy in those taking part.

24 hours? I don’t think I can walk for that long!

No worries. Organisers are encouraging people to enter in teams – which is where the ‘relay’ bit comes in. Team members take turns walking around a track for the 24 hour time period, helping signify that cancer never sleeps.

Too keep you motivated there will be plenty of themed laps including a sing-a-long lap, superhero lap and a conga lap, as well as plenty of activities for when you’re not walking like live music, stand-up comedy and yoga classes to keep you occupied so you can stick it out for the full 24 hours.

Relay for Life was originally founded in the United States in 1985 and has since gone on to raise more than $5 billion (Dhs18.3 billion) in support of cancer patients worldwide.
