Summer festivals, comedy, illusion, pool parties and new restaurants…

Dubai, we’re almost through summer which means winter weather is on it’s way.

But it’s not just the cooler weather we’re looking forward to this September. As well as a wine festival to sip your way through there’s singing bees, comedy, theatre and pool parties.

Here are 10 things to look forward to this September. 

Throughout September: Sip your way through a Vinefest

The Scene by Simon Rimmer is launching their second month-long festival for September, and this month it’s all about wine. The summer garden has become an indoor vineyard and inside, you’ll be able to find more than 25 varieties of wine, buy one get one free on a selection of premium bottles, wine-based ice pops and a selection of themed wine-based bites.

From September 3: Checking out some weird and wonderful artefacts

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is coming to the Middle East for the first time ever this September. The traveling show by the iconic New York museum will open up a pop-up exhibition in Dubai’s Wafi from September 3, and will be free for all mall-goers to check out. Whether you’re into art and sculpture, American history or animal oddities, the exhibition is promising something for everyone.

September 5: Laugh out loud with a comedy night

One of India’s most famous comedian Jeeveshu Ahluwalia is bringing his laugh-out-loud, crowd based show to Dubai on Wednesday September 5 at PizzaExpress live. The one-night show will be completely improvised with no script involved. Be warned if you’re sat towards the front, there’s plenty of crowd involvement required…

September 6: Test your vocal chords at a singing bee

Consider yourself a lyrical mastermind? On Thursday September 6, Lucky Voice will be hosting the first ever ‘Singing Bee’. More of a ‘lyrics competition’ than a ‘singing’ one, challengers are tasked with correctly singing the first line of each song with conviction to make it to the next round. Twenty contestants will go head to head on the night, with only one victorious Rock Star left standing. It’s free to enter, and prizes include brunches and bottles of bubbly.

From September 11: See a soul star perform live

Q’s Bar & Lounge, the intimate live music venue at Palazzo Versace is set to welcome soul artist Rogelio Douglas, Jr. as it’s next resident performer from September 11. Coming from his residency at Herb Alpert’s Vibrato Jazz Club in Los Angeles, Rogelio will perform three sets of his smooth soul and jazz sounds every Tuesday to Friday from 9pm to 1am, and on Saturdays from 8pm to midnight.

September 13 and 14: Get hypnotized by a mentalist

Fans of illusion and trickery are in for a treat this September when Irish mentalist Keith Barry comes to Dubai for two nights of mind-bending shows. The noted “brain hacker” will be performing at McGettigan’s in JLT on Thursday, September 13 and Friday, September 14 promising to dazzle audiences with an elaborate series of mind and body tricks.

September date TBC: Dine at a new Downtown spot

Istanbul export The Galliard is headed for opening next month in the recently reopened Address Downtown. Describing that it serves ‘artfully prepared Turkish delicacies as well as French and Spanish cuisine’, you’ll find it on the lobby level of the hotel, overlooking the Burj Khalifa.

September 13 to 15: See a stunning multimedia theatre experience

Interested in a night of theatre that’s a little outside the box? Then you’ll want to get a front-row seat to Shadowland, a mesmerizing multimedia experience coming to the Dubai World Trade Centre this September. Conceived by US performing arts company Pilobolus, the show blends ballet, circus, shadow theatre and storytelling and follows a coming-of-age story of a young girl’s journey through a mysterious and terrifying night.

September 21: Partying poolside at Nikki Beach

Nikki Beach Club is back in business, and what says welcome back better than an all-white pool party? Taking place on Friday September 21, the Deluxe Pool Party will see Nikki Beach kitted out in stunning white décor, beats from Nikki Beach Resident DJs and artists, and a pool full of inflatable pool toys plus Hawaiian décor and dishes.

September 28: Take the kids to see some musical theatre

Expect songs and stage fighting as a family-friendly makeover of Aladdin comes to The Junction theatre at the end of the month. There will be two performances at 11am and 2pm, with tickets priced at Dhs125.
