A big step in the right direction towards zero waste…

Over the last couple of years the UAE has been making great changes towards reducing its carbon footprint, particularly in an effort to reduce plastic waste. A large number of Dubai’s biggest restaurants, beach clubs and bars have removed plastic straws from their outlets and replaced them with biodegradable alternatives.

There are also events to raise awareness about the levels of plastic in the sea, such as Adidas and Parsley’s collaborative race Run for the Oceans on Kite Beach last year.

Now another great move towards helping Dubai reduce its plastic use is Kave, the latest addition to Alserkal Avenue’s repertoire of trendy hipster cafés. Not only does it offer delicious homemade pho in an eco-friendly environment, but also up-cycling services, workshops, home styling sessions and even consultations on how to make your home or business more eco-friendly.

Their ethos is a positive space to eat, create and communicate whilst looking after the environment. Good vibes, great ideas, and even dogs are all welcome in this warm inviting warehouse.

In the shop you’ll find fair-trade finds, ethically-sourced art pieces, up-cycled glassware and custom designed retro bicycles. Weekly workshops can include anything from painting for beginners to DIY herbal medicines.

Community is a big part of what makes this project special, there are regular game-nights, and even mixers to help visitors meet new people and share ideas. Zero waste is the goal, but spreading positive energy is the focus.
