It’s a brilliant initiative to get involved in, with more than 200 fridges already registered across the city…

The holy month of Ramadan is a time when residents are thinking about ways they can give back to the community

One brilliant way to do so is by participating in the Ramadan Sharing Fridges initiative. Started in 2016, this community-based event sees fridges pop-up all over the city, with residents encouraged to fill them for those in need to help themselves to.

The Ramadan Sharing Fridges are back for 2019, having opened on the first day of Ramadan, and will run throughout the Holy Month.

There’s currently more than 130 fridges registered for the Ramadan Sharing Fridges, and you’ll find them all on the map, which is updated as more are added.

As you can see, their locations range from Jebel Ali to Deira and all the way in between, so it should be easy for you to locate the nearest one to your home or work.

What sort of things should people donate?

As per the previous years, the license is not for cooked food. Fridge Manager Anne Mulcahy encourages bringing things like soft drinks, fresh fruits, laban, fruit juices and biscuits. Hot, cooked food is not permitted, nor is bringing leftovers. You can find a list of the best items to bring on the Facebook group.
