Oscar award-winning actor Rami Malek is the latest star to be awarded a Dubai Star on Downtown Dubai’s Walk of Fame.

Born to Egyptian parents in America, Rami Malek had a handful of smaller roles in TV shows such as Gilmore Girls and in the hit movie Twilight, but rose to fame in 2015 playing the lead in psychological drama, Mr Robot. His performance in the hit TV show has earned his a host of award nominations, and saw him take home an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2016. Mr Robot will conclude with its fourth and final season this year.

Malek’s fame reached stratospheric heights when he was cast in the 2018 Queen biopic, Bohemian Rapsody as the legendary Freddie Mercury. The biographical film, released in 2018, followed Freddie Mercury and his bandmates as they navigated life in one of the world’s most successful rock bands. Bohemian Rapsody became one of the highest grossing films of 2018 worldwide, making a reported $900 million from a budget of $50 million.

The Egyptian-American actor went on to win awards at the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and SAG awards, and then the Oscars in March 2019.

“I am the son of immigrants from Egypt”, the 38-year-old actor proudly declared in his Oscars acceptance speech.

His next major role will see Malek become the latest villain in the new James Bond film, Bond 25, which is set for an April 2020 release.

Rami Malek’s Dubai Star will be unveiled on Dubai’s Hollywood-style Walk of Fame in October 2019, alongside around 400 other recipients.

He joins the likes of actors Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jackie Chan, singers Nancy Ajram and Fayrouz, and fashion designer Elie Saab.

The exciting new attraction is a project is by Dubai developer, Emaar, and will be found on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown Dubai.

When complete, there will be 10,000 Dubai Stars in total, that’s four times that of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
