Taking a taxi has just got a whole lot more fun after the Dubai Motor Festival revealed they would be rolling out a fleet of supercars to help get people around.

During the weekends between November 21 and 22, 28 and 29, and December 5 and 6, some of the planet’s most luxurious vehicles will help highlight the event by ferrying enthusiasts from high footfall areas such as Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and the airports.

Cars valued in excess of Dhs1m, including a Ferrari 458, Bentley Continental GT, Rolls Royce Ghost and Lamborghini Gallardo, are among those being used, as is a stretch Mercedes G Class.

“The Supercar Taxis will offer tourists and residents a dream experience like no other,” organisers said. “The idea behind this was to celebrate people’s passion for motoring. This is the first of its kind in the world and we want to engage the community. Gauging the response we get, we may extend the experience beyond the weekends it will be available.”

Exact details of the plan are still to be confirmed, such as how those picked up are selected as well as the maximum journey time, though it is expected that the city limits will act as some sort of border. The ride will also only be one way.

The two-and-a-half week festival also features a number of other special events across the city, and starts on the same weekend Abu Dhabi hosts the final race of the Formula One season at Yas Marina circuit. Prior to that, on November 19, four-time World Championship team Infiniti Red Bull Racing bring drivers Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo to Skydive Dubai for a live demonstration.

Then, on November 28, if you cup your ear from anywhere in the city you’ll hear the growl of engines. Big, expensive engines. And lots of them. Exotic, concept, vintage and generally amazing cars and motorbikes will roll through town as part of the Dubai Grand Parade. It begins and ends at Meydan Racecourse and will be led by Dubai Police’s fleet of supercars. More than 500 vehicles are expected to make up the parade that will pass Dubai landmarks.

You can enter your own car or bike before the registration cut off date of November 6 at 3pm. Just a word of advice: the bikes and cars on display have to be a bit special so if you’re thinking of parading your rented Toyota Yaris, you might want to think again.
