What’s On has details of the National Football Museum exhibition at Harvey Nichols Dubai, Mall of the Emirates, and the guest appearance of John Barnes on Wednesday April 16.
The temporary National Football Museum exhibition at Harvey Nichols in Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates will welcome former England and Liverpool star John Barnes for a meet-and-greet on Wednesday April 16.
Barnes’ appearance is part of a two-month long campaign that showcases British football and fashion to the UAE public, titled ‘Sport is Great’. In addition to meeting the footballer between 7pm and 9pm, visitors to Harvey Nichols-Dubai will have a chance to win Premier League signed football shirts and a trip for two to the UK to watch a football match live.
Currently on display at the pop-up exhibition are priceless relics including a shirt worn by World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore, a life-sized mannequin of Pele and the FA Cup trophy, all on show until May 20.
Barnes is a legendary figure in British football having won two league titles and an FA Cup with Liverpool during a 10-year stay at Anfield. He was voted the fifth best player in the club’s history having notched 108 goals in 407 appearances. The 50-year-old, who was born in Jamaica, has also played for Watford and Newcastle domestically, while he earned 79 caps for the Three Lions, including appearances at World Cup’s in Mexico (1986) and Italy (1990). Barnes was twice winner of the Football Writers’ Player of the Year.
Speaking ahead of his appearance, he said: “I’m delighted to be part of the ‘Sport is Great’ initiative and honoured to be representing British Football in Dubai.”
