If the very idea of a vegetarian menu brings you out in a cold sweat, we suggest you get yourself down to Perry & Blackwelder’s (P&B’s) Original Smokehouse’s Smokin’ Fair at the Madinat Jumeirah Amphitheatre.
You’ll be greeted by mouthwatering smells of smoked meat emanating from the Texas-style BBQs, where the new restaurant’s chefs are preparing tangy hot wings tossed in various sticky sauces, sloppy joes, pulled brisket, beef short-rib, smoked turkey and more.
Try the hot wings (Dhs30 for five wings or Dhs55 for 10), the trio of sliders loaded with pickles and onions (Dhs40), or the smoky pit pinto baked beans. Be warned though, a tin of Heinz won’t be quite the same once you’ve tasted the alternative. If you really can’t decide, go for the ‘smokin’ no jokin’ taster platter of three meats served the traditional Texan way with white bread, potato salad, pickles and onions. Each of the meats on the barbecue platter will be smoked a different way each day. Get ready for the meat sweats…
The fair, which takes place from January 22 to 31 and is free of charge to attend, is a buckle-down celebration of all things meat. And while you’re gobbling down all those wings, live country music from Wes Hayden and his band will create the soundtrack to your evening in the Deep South.
Those with a penchant for slow-cooked meat at low temperatures will love the daily traditional Deep South barbecue that’s available from 5pm to 10pm (Sunday to Thursday) and 2pm to 10pm (Friday and Saturday).
Food and drinks aside, there’s plenty of Texan-style fairground rounds to try your hand at. Did someone say Rodeo contest?
