New Abu Dhabi hotels fees and daily charges to start from June 1.

Going on a staycation in Abu Dhabi this summer? Got friends or family visiting? Well get ready to pay a little more in the emirate’s hotels.

Holiday makers will now have to pay a municipal fee of four per cent on top of their hotel bill and will also have to pay a Dhs15 charge for every single night they stay, according to the capital’s Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport and Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority.

So how much extra will you really be paying? If you stayed at a hotel charging Dhs500 a night for six nights, your four pre cent municipal fee would be Dhs20 and you’d also pay a room charge of Dhs90 for your stay. So the price of your stay has gone up Dhs110. Guests in Abu Dhabi already pay a six per cent city tax and a 10 per cent service charge on their bills.

The new fees come into effect in the emirate from June 1 and government officials have said the cash collected will be used on the city’s tourism infrastructure and to improve the services visitors get in the emirate’s hotels.

You’ll already be familiar with such fees if you live in Dubai – hotels there have charged a nightly room fee since 2014, ranging from Dhs7 to Dhs20, depending on the rating of the hotel.
