Fancy a Thursday night flick? Head to BoxPark…

As if you needed another reason to check out Dubai’s coolest (and, well, only) shipping container shopping mall, a new Roxy Cinema has just opened there.

The brand new cinema concept Roxy has already taken over the theatres in JBR and City Walk, and The Roxy at BoxPark, which opened this week, is the latest addition.

While there are no timed movie listings for BoxPark on the Roxy Cinemas website yet, here’s an Instagram announcing that it’s open for business:

You’ll have to go down there and book tickets in person site if you want to see a flick – according to the website, the only movie on there this weekend is John Wick 2.

And here’s what it looks like from the outside:

It’s certainly looking more like an arthouse theatre than the other cinemas in town – but let’s see if they play more unusual, less commercial movies (or whether it just looks arty). We’ll let you know when we know more on that front.

Update: We’ve been informed The Roxy will be showing new releases for the most part, but they also have a collection of classics which can be viewed on demand by booking the ‘Private Screen’.

The theatres at JBR and City Walk used to be part of the Reel Cinemas chain, but were rebranded as Roxy Cinemas in January.

Film buffs can choose from three types of experiences: the Set, which is the cheap and cheerful option; the Editor’s Suite, which offers more spacious seating and superior picture and sound; and the ultra-luxe Director’s Lounge, which offers cutting-edge vision and sound technology, recliner seats… and even a VIP call button.

Reel Cinemas are operated by Emaar (the company that runs Dubai Mall and Dubai Marina Mall) while Roxy Cinemas are from Meraas (who developed City Walk and JBR).
