The brand new Can Am Spyder ‘superbike’ has been announced as the latest addition to the Dubai Police force’s already impressive super fleet.
Since April 2013, the Dubai Police force has built a luxurious collection of police supercars that now patrol the streets – which has succeeded in receiving media attention worldwide. Officers are now getting behind the wheels of some of the fastest and most prestigious cars in the world including the Audi R8, Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari FF and Lamborghini Aventador.
Major General Al Mazeina, Dubai’s Police Chief, said that this superbike addition, which is valued at approximately Dhs85,000, is capable of being used for regular police activity, but will mostly be used like the rest of the fleet – as an attraction, patrolling touristic areas such as the Burj Al Arab, Downtown Dubai and JBR. It’s a good job too as there’s little space for criminals on the back of this two-seater roadster, or any of their other vehicles in the super fleet for that matter.
At the Dubai International Boat show in March 2013, the emirates police force unveiled a new super boat that was reportedly the fastest police boat in the GCC. Similar to the new Can Am Spyder, the 10-metre long speedboat acts as a means of promoting the police force and the city rather than used for high-speed pursuits. Pity, it would make for one really exciting spectacle.
Other recent additions include Zippi, ridden by Corporal Jameel Jalal Ali Mohammed around JBR’s new shopping precinct, The Beach, home of the famous sand sculptures. The two-wheeled electric ‘vehicle’, which can use lifts and comes complete with lights and siren, is certainly more adept at dealing with the throngs of people and traffic that are flocking to the new hub right on the beach front. It has a maximum speed of about 20kph and costs Dhs28,000.
