Since the start of 2014 there have been big plans in the pipeline for a Jumeirah Corniche to pass through Kite Beach, and while renovations are ongoing, beach goers finally have something to smile about.
The new promenade is now home to a handful of cool restaurants, cafes and quirky food concepts that have been creating quite a stir on Instagram.
Since the beginning of January, the Kite Beach kiosk (as it is affectionately known) has become Dubai’s hub for outdoorsy types to meet and eat. Developers of this new complex have cast a wide net into the waves of local hippiedom, bringing together an assortment of health-conscious businesses that’s turning the place into a veritable playground for fitness folk.
Wanna Banana is a new concept from Dubai-based entrepreneur Ingrid Montoisy. This fresh and fun foodie concept takes a regular banana, freezes and turns it into three different – but very delicious – offerings: the ice, the boost and the bite. The ice is a frozen, creamy banana based snack with a taste that rivals ice-cream. The boost combines all natural and great tasting products with bananas to create a refreshing and energising drink. The bites are easy-to-eat chunks of frozen bananas that can be customised with any of the toppings on offer. It’s potassium overload, but in a really good way. facebook.com/wannabananasnack
This is Park House. If you’re a regular at the Ripe Market you’ll know it as they have a stall there in Zabeel every Friday. This is their new cafe. The menu is the stuff of dreams: mac and cheese, grilled cheese and onion jam sandwiches and baked sweet potato fries. There’s even a park house bean burger. Definitely a new home for the leaf-eaters of Dubai. facebook.com/ParkHouseDXB
A favourite among the What’s On team, Taqado works like a fast food joint with all the authenticity and flavours of central America. This place has two types of churro – long, ridged ones served with hot chocolate sauce, or curly versions drizzled with honey. Yum. facebook.com/Taqado
Aside from fresh smoothies, juices & frozen yogurts, The Surf Shack’s cozy booth serves acai, a tropical fruit from Brazil. The gorgeous fruity acai bowls look like ice cream, and taste like ice cream but it’s actually very healthy, especially when topped with oatmeal. Wolf it down with a spoon and you’ll be one happy customer. Thank you Surf Shack. facebook.com/thesurfshackdubai
