The Abu Dhabi Art Hub, the UAE’s first artistic community, has branched out into Dubai Design District and kicks things off by showcasing a collection of international and local artists. There are a whole range of modern and contemporary pieces, from canvas paintings to abstract sculptures, all bringing into question different cultures and foreign identities.

These behind-the-scene style photos capture famous artists working on their masterpieces. The images were handpicked from the magazine Paris Match’s archives by Olivier Widmaier Picasso, (yes, Pablo Picasso’s grandson), and will be dotted around the Sofitel Dubai’s restaurant. You can see Salvador Dali at Paris Zoo, Joan Miro working in his studio and Picasso sketching a model.

Figurative To Abstraction
Until November 10 (and then November 23 until January)
ArtSpace is a gallery dedicated to modern and contemporary Middle Eastern artists and for the next few months it’s shining a light on Alfred Basbous. The show of the late sculptor’s work is split in two, with part one running for only two more days until November 10 and the second from November 23 until January. The Lebanese artist’s abstract pieces are all about imitating natural form through perfectly smooth lines and angles.

The Anthropocene
November 13 to December 31
Photographer Richard Allenby-Pratt has spent the past 16 years exploring the UAE and capturing the Emirates’ every angle. The exhibition title refers to how, now, humans have a big impact on the earth’s landscape. So through this collection of photos from his different series, spanning the last 15 years, Allenby-Pratt is exploring how radically Dubai’s desert landscape has changed in recent years.
