The new resolution will cover car rental and moving companies…
Have you ever worried about the safety of your valuables when moving house in Dubai? Well, now HH Sheikh Hamadan has issued a new resolution relating to road transportation and vehicle rental activity in Dubai.
The resolution is aimed at regulating the transportation of passengers, goods, valuables, packages, foodstuff and furniture by specialised companies. It also regulates the rental of buses, trucks, recreational vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles.
The new rules forbid anyone to undertake any transportation activity or rent vehicles without obtaining a permit from the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) licensing agency.
Hopefully, this will all mean you can be a lot more assured when booking your movers service or renting a car that the company is legit.
It will mean companies are monitored based on what they use their vehicles for, and how many vehicles they have. Basically, it should mean you see fewer couches piled atop fridges in an open ute come moving day in Dubai.
The resolution also details that the permit is valid for a renewable term of one year, and a renewal request should be submitted within 30 days of expiry.
It applies to all relevant entities in Dubai, including those based in special development zones, free zones and Dubai International Financial Centre. Government entities are exempt from the resolution.
The resolution states RTA’s Licensing Agency will now take a more regulated approach to evaluating and approving applications. It also outlines their intention to monitor the number of vehicles operated by each company, ensure compliance to the permit’s terms and conditions, and manage a database for all those subject to the resolution.
It outlines the new obligations of the licensed entities, which include ensuring the provision of an office, vehicles and parking space suitable for the licensed activity.
The resolution will come into effect 60 days after being published in the Official Gazette.
