To call it one of the most anticipated nights of the year might sound like hyperbole, but believe us, it isn’t. We are, of course, talking about the launch of the Playstation 4 in the UAE, which will start at midnight on Thursday.

And not to get you all flustered, but we’ve heard rumours that there are just 2,500 being made available on launch night. So get ready for a wild goose chase.

One place that you could get your hands on the coveted console is at local retailer Geekay Games, who will host a events across all of its stores in UAE, Oman, and Bahrain, starting from 11pm.

Sony’s marquee console, which has already sold more than two million worldwide since its launch on November 15 in the Americas, will retail at Dhs1699, though we suspect it would fly off the shelves for much more!

“Gamers have been eagerly waiting for the PS4 console since the first announcement in February this year. In July we had started taking preorders of the console and the response was unbelievable. The best way for us to thank our customers was to give them the console as early as possible. Therefore, we decided to keep our stores open across the region,” a spokesman for Geekay Group MEA said. “We have been associated with the Playstation brand since the first release way back in 1995 and are delighted to be part of Sony’s success of the Playstation brand over the last two decades”.

Virgin Megastore will also have a limited stock for day one buyers having seen a stunning take up in their pre-ordering service.

Described in a review by Stuff Middle East as “not the sleekest or sexiest console design ever seen, but at least the PS4 looks as though it’s actually been designed, which is more than can be said for the VCR-like Xbox One. You’ve essentially got two slabs separated by a trench that houses two USBs and a slim slot-loader on the front, and vents along the back and sides. We’re going to call it Victoria Sponge Design.”
