Sandance have officially began the process of refunding all those who bought tickets to the ill-fated New Year’s Eve party on The Palm.

Traffic chaos in Dubai meant many party-goers, who had been forced to travel to the event by shuttle bus from the American University of Dubai,  failed to even make it to Nasimi Beach outside Atlantis, where Emeli Sande, Axwell, Paul Oakenfold and Pete Tong were among the stars performing.

Restrictions had been set-up ahead of the final day of 2013 as the Emirate prepared to ring in the new year with a record-breaking fireworks display – a feat they duly achieved. Sadly, many were unable to enjoy the spectacle from where they had hoped.

The backlash against festival organisers has been fierce, and in the aftermath they promised a solution. That has now been revealed to be a full refund to anyone who purchased tickets, some of which cost up to Dhs1,000.

A statement released on a dedicated website for those seeking their money back, today read: “Sandance is known for amazing experiences and we are extremely sorry for the huge inconvenience to our guests who purchased tickets to attend Sandance on New Year’s Eve 2013. We understand that many guests wanted to enjoy Sandance on this special night and were unable to reach the venue or experienced significant traffic delays.

“While the situation on New Year’s Eve was the result of various factors that were not under our control, the experience of our guests is our top priority. As such, we are taking action to reimburse all valid New Year’s Eve Sandance ticket purchasers the full ticket value.

“Additionally, we hope to welcome you all back to Sandance and we are pleased to offer every valid New Year’s Eve Sandance ticket purchasers a 50% discount on the purchase of the same number and category of tickets for the next Sandance music festival.”
