FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The décor is pleasant; it’s light, airy and very spacious. The menu isn’t ground-breaking; it’s simple French cuisine with Mediterranean influences.

VIBE
It’s so laid back, it’s almost vertical. The food isn’t pretentious at all, and the whole feeling is a little too casual. It’s certainly less hectic than Jones the Grocer next door.

WHAT TO ORDER
The beetroot hummus spread across a slate palette was almost too artistic to eat but tasted really good. The chicken parfait with brioche was deliciously smooth and beautifully presented too. For a heartier meal try the chicken with potato croquettes.

LOOK OUT FOR
The desserts. All their Italian-style pastries are made in-house and are a focal point at Bystro. The bitesize Italian zeppole – a deep fried dough ball topped with powdered sugar – is the best of a sickly sweet bunch.

IDEAL FOR
A light bite after the morning school run.

INSIDER INFO
The owners pride themselves on owning a Josper charcoal grill, an appliance apparently used in some of the best kitchens all over the world. It’s used for all vegetable and meat dishes and ensures great texture and the right amount of juiciness.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Serving up inoffensive modern European dishes with a local twist. Not particularly pioneering but pleasant enough for a light bite.
