Dubai residents have been invited to take part in the world’s largest online dinner party.

Organised by quadruple amputee Olivia Giles and founder of UK-based charity 500 miles, Olivia is inviting people across the world to sit down to dinner on March 7 so that people in Africa have the chance to walk.

500 miles supports amputees and others with mobility difficulties in Sub-Saharan Africa, and is organising the BIG Dinner – a one off event involving hundreds of separate dinners across the world. Every dinner taking place around the world will be linked by social media and a web streamed celebrity BIG dinner in the UK hosted by regular Edinburgh Fringe Festival performer Fred MacAulauy.

The BIG Dinner

“You will watch it as if you are having a Children in Need night in,” Olivia said. “You will see people having their dinner in all sorts of interesting places and find out more about 500 miles. “There will also be an auction of dinner dates too, where people can bid to have a meal with a celebrity. “

Colin Montgomerie, co-designer of the golf course at The Address Montgomerie Dubai; Nick Nairn, the youngest Scottish chef to win a Michelin star and the renowned crime writer, Ian Rankin are amongst the stars available for bid.

Launching the event, the BIG dinner’s resident chef, Nick Nairn, Olivia said: “The NHS provided my prosthetics for free and they have given me a second chance at life but people in many parts of Africa are not so fortunate. Even though an average artificial limb or limb support costs as little as Dhs995, many people will unnecessarily spend their lives in a wheelchair or worse, on the ground. By hosting or attending a dinner for the BIG dinner on  March 7, people will be helping to transform lives forever.”

To take part, simply register online and invite family and friends. Registration costs Dhs145.
