The weather’s perfect for it, but fact of the matter is cycling around most suburbs in Dubai remains impossible (and dangerous).

Well, the good news for fans of getting about on two wheels is that over 900 kilometres of new cycle paths have been planned by the RTA, and will be installed by the key date of 2020.

Cycle paths will be built (and maintained) by the RTA in Al Mizhar, Mirdif, Al Warqa’a, Al Sufouh, Umm Suqeim, Jumeirah and Al Barsha. There will be cycle paths linking the streets of Jumeirah to parks, beaches and shops, and one in Barsha to connect to the Mall of the Emirates and the Sharaf DG metro station.

Work has already begun on the cycle paths in the above areas, but the RTA is also considering paths for other suburbs, including Bur Dubai, Discovery Gardens, Al Furjan, Green Community Village and Dubai Investment Park.

The aim is to create an easy and safe ride for the residents in the above areas from their homes to the neighbouring beaches, malls and parks, and metro and tram stations.
