Our pick of the movies out in Dubai cinemas this week is Anomalisa, a stop-motion animation with rave reviews.

Here are all the flicks you’ll be able to go see from today…

ANOMALISA

We’re excited to see the latest Charlie Kaufman film, because you never know what to expect from the writer/director, whose quirky imagination gave us Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Adaptation. Anomalisa looks equally interesting, an elaborate stop-motion animation that tells the story of Michael Stone (voiced by David Thewliss), a down in the dumps businessman looking for some meaning in his life. The animation alone is brilliant, as is Kaufman’s typically heartrending story. No wonder it’s been getting rave reviews.

THE BOSS

Melissa McCarthy was everyone’s favourite part of Bridesmaids, so it’s good to see her take the lead role. Here she plays Michelle Darnell, the richest woman in the world – until she goes to jail for insider trading. Her ex-assistant Claire (Kristen Bell) takes her in when she’s let out, and it’s not long before Michelle has a scheme to get rich (again) quick: selling Claire’s delicious brownies through her daughter’s scout group. Expect a lot of McCarthy’s trademark edgy humour.

MR. RIGHT

Even by rom-com standards, the premise of this film is pretty silly. Francis (Sam Rockwell) is a reformed hitman (just go with it), who ends up meeting Martha (Anna Kendrick) and falling for her while trying to extricate himself from the seedy underbelly of his old job. Fortunately, the likability of the two leads makes it funny and watchable. Side note: the director, Max Landis, will be appearing as a guest at Middle East Film and Comic Con on April 8.
