Dubai Police are taking on hard shoulder drivers
If you’re someone who likes to invent a new lane next to the fast lane when impatient, you better watch out as there’s a new robocop in town…
The Dubai Police have designed a new device that can detect when someone is driving on the hard shoulder, and they’ve ordered 20 of the battery-powered devices.
Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, commander in chief of the Dubai Police, said that not only is driving on the hard shoulder “uncivilized”, it also highly increases the chances of collisions on Dubai roads and it often obstructs the path of police and ambulances in emergencies.

The new radar is portable, so the Police can move them around the different problem areas, and it uses both a high-res camera and a sound detector to ascertain when people are driving inside the yellow line on roads.

So what will happen to motorists papped doing such a thing? Al Mazeina said the punishment will be to have your car impounded for a month, six black points and a Dhs600 fine.
