Local Knowledge: Frankie Hilton talks dining vegan in Dubai
Struggling to find the places to get your vegan fix? Read on…
Frankie Hilton is the founder of lifestyle website Shimmering Sands, a digital platform dedicated to sharing stories about day to day life as an expat woman in Dubai. Here, she shares her six favourite vegan hotspots.
Comptoir 102
Comptoir 102 is a little haven in Dubai that’s unlike anywhere else in the city. The cashew-based cream cheese on toast is life-changing if you miss cream cheese as a vegan (which I do!).
Jumeirah Beach Road, Dubai, Sun to Thur 8.30 to 6.30, Fri and Sat 8.30 to 8pm. Tel: (04) 3854555. comptoir102.com
Mint Leaf Of London
The Mint Leaf Of London brunch is one of my favourite brunches in Dubai. They offer a vegan six-course unlimited a la carte brunch menu including bite-size starters, a variety of flavourful curries and mango sorbet for dessert, all cooked without butter and cream.
Mint Leaf of London, Emirates Financial Towers, DIFC. Tel: (04) 706 0900. mintleaf.ae.
Wanna Banana
Wanna Banana is the best sweet treat alternative to ice cream. It is simply made of frozen banana, but tastes just as good as ice cream. I like to add peanut butter to mine too.
Kite Beach Kiosk, Umm Suqeim 4, daily 8am to 9.45pm. Tel: wannabananasnack.com
Krave
Weekends for me always include a takeaway. I’m a terrible cook and my go-to Dubai takeaway is the vegan chilli bowl at Krave – especially in the current cooler weather. It’s the perfect winter warmer.
Barsha Heights and Al Shaiba Tower, DIFC. instagram.com/eatkrave
Black Tap
You might think a burger joint wouldn’t have suitable vegan options, but you’d be wrong! Black Tap serve bean based burgers, and they are delicious. I tried one last week and highly recommend the vegan option, or the falafel burger.
Black Tap, Rixos Premium, JBR, daily 11am to 12am. Tel: (04) 520 0000. Blacktapme.com. Also available at Black Tap Jumeirah Al Naseem.
Gourmet By Kcal
Not everything on the menu is vegan at Gourmet, but if you are enjoying a pool day at the Le Méridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina, pop in for the most delicious veggie summer rolls.
Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina, daily 7am to 10:30pm. Tel:(04) 511 7373. gourmetbykcal.com
