With temperatures expected to soar above 45 degrees…

This Thursday June 21 is set to be the longest day of the year in the UAE, officially confirming the start of summer.

Also known as Summer Solstice, this Thursday we can expect around 13 hours, 42 minutes and 43 seconds of daylight. The exact summer solstice will occur at 2.07pm, when Earth reaches the point in its orbit where the North Pole is angled closest to the sun.

After this, the days will gradually begin to get shorter – but only by a second or so to begin with.

So what does that mean for the temperatures?

Well, temperatures are already reaching just above 45 degrees in some parts of the UAE this week, according to the National Centre of Meteorology.

They have also issued warnings of humidity and fog across parts of the UAE.

It’s only expected to get hotter. According to data collected from 2003 to 2017 by the National Centre of Meteorology, the average temperature in Dubai is recorded at 33.2 degrees for June, while July is 35.1 and August is 35.2. In September, average temperatures fall to 32.8.
