They generate an e-ticket that you don’t need to place under your windshield…

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has begun installing smart parking meters in designated areas in Dubai to change up the way that motorists pay for their parking.

The new touchscreen-enabled meters are designed to make it so that motorists don’t have to walk back to their vehicle and place a ticket under their windshield once it is issued. Particularly useful during the scorching summer months.

Instead, users will be required to enter information such as the vehicle’s licence plate number and parking duration generating an e-ticket as well as printed receipt.

The new system will also help curb the practice of sharing a single parking ticket amongst multiple motorists, which is frowned upon by the RTA.

Currently, the new meters have been rolled out in a pilot program at Al Jafiliya, next to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, with plans for further expansion if it proves fruitful.
