Dubai’s famous Gold Souk is currently undergoing a revamp, as part of a major project to develop the historic Deira neighbourhood.

And master developer Ithra Dubai has just revealed its plans for the Gold Souk Extension, which will help modernise the area, while still maintaining the charm and character that makes it so unique.

Covering over 680,000 square feet, the expanded souk will be home to 176 shops and 225 offices, as well as 289 residences.

Here’s what the area will look like when developed:

Issam Galadari, CEO of Ithra Dubai, said: “The Gold Souk Extension, like the Deira Enrichment Project, will look to preserve the character and culture prevalent in this established trading neighbourhood, taking into account the distinct heritage of the area as it looks to improve it and help it meet the demands of modern commerce.”

Tawhid Abdullah, chairman of the Dubai Gold & Jewllery Group, said: “I have spent most of my life in and around Deira Gold Souk, I am very excited to see the new developments in the area.

“We believe that Ithra has considered the traditional and emotional values of this area while bringing in modern facilities and new infrastructure for traders and visitors. We hope the new extension to the Gold Souk will be an amalgamation of traditional business centres and modern shopping arenas; and hopefully enhance the status of Deira Gold Souk as a shopping, tourist and business destination.”

The Gold Souk Extension is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
