Cooking competitions, stand-up specials, and Christmas movies (yes, already)…

Netflix is the ultimate go-to for a binge-worthy unwind, and we’ve selected the best new movies, TV shows and docos to check out in November. So put the popcorn in the microwave, dim the lights and get stuck into one of these…

Manchester by the Sea – November 1

This heart-wrenching drama – one of the top movies of 2016 – follows a man who is forced to return to his hometown to look after his dead brother’s son. Casey Affleck gives a harrowing performance that earned him both an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor, while the excellent Michelle Williams picked up an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead – November 2

Film buffs will love this new behind-the-scenes documentary, which explores the making of The Other Side of the Wind – which legendary filmmaker Orson Welles spent a decade working on. It takes its name from a prophetic comment Welles made to fellow director Peter Bogdanovich, as he struggled to make a Hollywood comeback during the final years of his life.

Outlaw King – November 9

If you’re looking for something to tide you over until the next season of Game of Thrones, give this historical epic a whirl. Starring Chris Pine as Robert the Bruce, it tells the true story of the famous King of Scots and his battle to reclaim the throne. Expect plenty of medieval battle scenes, with mud and blood galore.

The Final Table – November 20

While much of Netflix’s food programming has centred around amateurs (we’re looking at you, Nailed It), this international culinary competition pits 24 of the world’s best chefs against each other. Episodes will focus on the cuisines of nine different countries, so you can look forward to a smorgasbord of delicious viewing.

Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia – November 20

South African comedian Trevor Noah is coming to Abu Dhabi in December, so you’ll be able to warm up your funny bone with this new stand-up special. The popular Daily Show host touches on racism, immigration, camping and more.

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding – November 30

‘Tis the season for Christmas movies, and fans of last year’s surprise festive smash A Christmas Prince will be delighted to see the follow-up. Cashing in on the real-life royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the sequel will follow Amber and Richard as they prepare to tie the knot.
