The pavilion will commemorate the UN’s 75th anniversary…

Expo 2020 is now less than one year away and exciting details continue to be revealed. In the World Expo, that will see 192 countries participating in the six-month event, it has been announced that the United Nations will also have its own pavilion.

United Nations received strong support from the UAE and Expo 2020 to get involved, offering a ready-made pavilion from which to showcase its messages to the world. The main message it hopes visitors will takeaway is that ‘the United Nations is an impactful force in the world, and one that welcomes and requires all of us to participate’.

The pavilion’s theme will be We the Peoples: Shaping Our Future Together and aims to inspire engagement in and around Agenda 2030 and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. It will be a space to hold events, presentations, discussions and meetings, as well as share stories and achievements of the United Nations.

Maher Nasser, Commissioner-General of the United Nations, said: “We are very grateful to the Government and people of the United Arab Emirates, and the organisers, for the opportunity to be part of Expo 2020 and for the generous support provided.”

The United Nations particularly hopes to resonate with young people, promising to be open and accessible, and listen to what they have to say. With an aim to come together to create a safe, peaceful, just and sustainable future, United Nations wants to inspire visitors to go ‘back to their own communities to join the global fight for a fair and sustainable world’.

A staggering 15 million visitors from more than 190 countries expected to descend upon Expo 2020 over the course of 173 days. The event will kick off in Dubai on October 20, 2020.
