It comes with several benefits and is mandatory…

While Abu Dhabi’s TAMM app has fast turned into the one-stop solution for residents (with AI-driven real time responses in ChatGPT style), it will soon also include a new animal ownership service that you’ll need to register your furry friends on. And If you’re wondering what we’re talking about, Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has just introduced a new animal ownership system effective February 3.

Pet owners in the capital will need to register their four-legged friends at their nearest veterinary clinic, which is free of cost and will include a pet examination by qualified staff, following which a unique number will be generated for your pet.

The moves comes with several benefits, including easy records management, effective identification, pet tracking, regulatory compliance, animal welfare, and transfer of ownership. The new system will also create a profile for your cat or dog, helping to ensure your pets are vaccinated, microchipped and that their healthcare appointments are scheduled and completed on time.

While individual pet owners will be granted a year’s grace period to register their pets, any establishments that own cats or dogs will need to complete registration within 6 months.

In addition to complying with government laws, it is crucial you get your pets registered because it will be mandatory in order to access animal care, medical services and public spaces where pets are permitted in the capital.

Make sure to have your national identification documents as well as your pet passport in hand when you’re ready to register.

While this is newly being introduced in Abu Dhabi, pet registration systems have proven successful in several parts of the world such as the United States, UK and other leading markets for pet owners, owing to its innumerable benefits.

Paw-some initiative…
