Watch: The Top Gun 2 trailer is here - three decades after the original
Maverick is back and while he might have aged 34 years – very little has changed…
Tom Cruise introduced us to the charming – but slightly reckless – character of Maverick in Top Gun when the film was released in 1986 and more than 30 years later, he’s back.
Over the weekend, Tom Cruise made a surprise appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con to drop the trailer for Top Gun: Maverick, which will be released in 2020.
In the trailer, Maverick is up to his old tricks, performing some pretty epic aerial stunts, disobeying orders and refusing to retire.

Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, Cruise described the film as a “love letter to aviation”.
“To me, Top Gun is about competition, it’s about family, it’s about sacrifice, it’s about heroism, it’s about aviation,” the actor explained of the film.
Cruise went on to further say that he and the crew had been working alongside the Navy to ensure the film’s authenticity. “Everything you see in the film is real,” he told the audience in San Diego.
The 57-year-old actor is known for performing his own stunts all around the world. He previously headed to the UAE to film scenes for the Mission Impossible franchise in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The daredevil actor has filmed scenes jumping out of a plane 25,000 feet above the Abu Dhabi desert in 2018, and in 2011 scaled the Burj Khalifa for scenes for Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.
