Flip-flops and festival wardrobes at the ready: Dubai has at least two more Sandance gigs to look forward to before the year is out.

The exciting announcement of shows on Friday October 10, and again on Friday November 14, was made yesterday evening as a virtually sell-out crowd rocked the night away to Kings of Leon at Live@Atlantis.

No further information has been made available by organizers, who are keeping details of the line-up close to their chest for at least a few more weeks until acts are confirmed for the shows.

Wednesday night’s gig featuring the Tennessee brothers is being hailed as a success after a succession of more subdued gigs on the famous strip of sand in the shadow of Atlantis.

May’s Sandance – the first of 2014 – was headlined by UK duo Pet Shop Boys, alongside DJ Fatboy Slim and band Scouting For Girls.

The New Year’s Eve installment of the festival ended with full refunds being awarded to all ticket holders after many were left stranded in gridlock on roads leading to Atlantis. There were minor delays this time around due to road maintenance in the tunnel leading to The Palm’s Crescent.

Revellers had been forced to travel to the event by shuttle bus from the American University of Dubai, yet failed to even make it to the event, where Emeli Sande, Axwell, Paul Oakenfold and Pete Tong were among those on the bill.

Restrictions had been set-up ahead of the final day of 2013 as the Emirate prepared to ring in the new year with a record-breaking fireworks display – a feat they duly achieved. Sadly, many were unable to enjoy the spectacle from where they had hoped.

Sandance and Atlantis acted swiftly in the aftermath to appease those caught up in the problems, setting up an online form for refunds. The response helped preserve the reputation of the festival, which had been an unqualified success since its launch almost four years earlier.
