Looking to escape the heat? Check out Barasti's -18ºC Ice Bar
She’s a balmy 46 degrees Celsius outside in Dubai today and we’re craving some chill.
Well, the good folks over at Barasti have heard our pleas, combining two of our favourite things – ice and ice cold beverages.
The Barasti Ice Bar launched last Thursday, turning the beach bar into a brrrr bar (geddit?).
The inside of the ice bar has been chilled down to a subzero temperature of minus 18 degrees Celsius.
For reference, minus 18 degrees Celsius is about as cold as a Greenland winter.
Everything is made from ice – ice lounges, tables, an ice photo-wall, an ice bar.
So how do you gain entry into the bar? Purchase two German digestif drinks to receive two free tickets for entry.
You’ll be given a snow jacket (yes, you’ll definitely need it) and a complimentary beverage to help ward off the cold.
You’ve got until the end of September to check it out. It’s pretty cool.
Ice Bar, Barasti Beach Bar, Al Sufouh Road. Daily 11am to 2.30am. 21+. Tel: (04) 3181313. barastibeach.com.

The other ice bars in Dubai
Cavalli Ice Lounge
Currently, there are only two other frozen venues in Dubai, the first of which resides inside Cavalli club at The Fairmont, Sheikh Zayed Road.
Entry to the Cavalli Ice Lounge is free, provided you purchase a tasty beverage.
It’s rather cold inside as well, sitting at a pokey minus 17 degrees Celsius.
Also, all the celebs that visit Cavalli Club pop into the ice bar, so it’s hosted T.I, The Game and Wiz Khalifa (Ice Cube next?).
Cavalli Club, Fairmont Hotel, Sheikh Zayed Road. Tel: (050) 9910400. cavalliclubdubai.com.
Chillout Ice Lounge
The second ice lounge in Dubai resides in the Times Square Centre just off Sheikh Zayed Road.
The aptly named Chillout Ice Lounge costs Dhs60 to get into.
The entry fee will also get you the use of a hat, gloves, coat and boots, as well as a free coffee, hot chocolate or mocktail.
Décor-wise, you’re surrounded by shag-covered ice chairs, tables and ice-sculpted camels, hearts, penguins and (of course) the Burj Khalifa.
The temperature however is slightly higher than that of the new Barasti Ice Bar, sitting at a comparatively warm 6 degrees Celsius.
Chillout Ice Lounge, ground floor, Time Square Centre, Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Quoz. Tel: (04) 3418121. chilloutindubai.com.
