Bar of the month: L'attitude
Pub grub and live music at this Ruwais watering hole.
In the heart of Abu Dhabi’s Western Region, there’s a pub that is frequented both by expats who work in Ruwais, and by tourists – L’attitude is its name, and it’s a lively place, in part thanks to its house band and its comprehensive drinks list.
L’attitude is a dark venue, one that’s best suited to a visit at night. The somber wooden walls and brown leather seats give off a lounge vibe, and there’s a section designated for dining, plus two bars, a stage and an area where you can have a boogie.
And it’s fair to say that the pub’s house band will make you want to cut some rug – they’re a Filipino four-piece called Power Play, with three female singers plus a gent on guitar.
The band performs hits by the likes of AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses and even Whitney Houston with gusto. They’ve been gigging here for several years and are an asset to the outlet.
Just like most UAE pubs these days, L’attitude also has several TVs showing live sport – there’s eight in total, including one giant screen.
The bar list is comprehensive, with a huge cocktails section, plus beers such as Hoegaarden, and it also serves reasonable food as well. The menu features an Indian section with kebabs and biryanis, plus more traditional pub grub fare such as burgers and fish and chips.
The tempura prawns are worth trying if you visit (a simple dish well prepared thanks to some chunky seafood), as are the nachos, although be mindful, as on What’s On‘s visit they had mouths on fire they were so spicy. A main of salty Singapore noodles also hit the spot.
None of these dishes are going to unsettle Gordon Ramsay any time soon, but it’s hearty enough pub grub that works well with a pint and some football on the telly.
There are more hip, trendy bars to visit in the capital, but if you ever find yourself that far out in the desert, then pop into L’attitude – it’s a cracking venue that delivers on its promise of a fun, no-frills night out.
