Tissues at the ready…

The live action version of The Lion King is one of the most anticipated Disney remakes of all time, and 100 days ahead of its UAE release, Disney have unveiled the first full-length trailer, and it’s as emotional as you’d imagine.

The haunting new trailer gives Lion King fans a glimpse of the Disney classic, which will be released in UAE cinemas on Thursday July 18.

Directed by Jon Favreau, who also directed the recent remake of The Jungle Book, the classic story will feature  the voices of Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.

In the opening shot, Simba is seen entering the eerie elephant graveyard as the voice of Scar booms out “‘Life’s not fair is it my little friend? While some are born to feast, others spend their lives in the dark… begging for scraps.’

Later in the trailer, breathtaking shots show Simba with his father, the Lion King Mufasa, on Pride Rock. As the trailer continues, we get glimpses of classic shots within the story, including the evil Scar banishing Simba, him reuniting with Nyla, and glimpses of iconic characters from the 1994 film, Timone and Pumbaa.

The Lion King isn’t the only big Disney film we’re waiting on this year. Earlier in the year, the first trailer for Frozen 2 was released, alongside a UAE release date – November 21

Although the first teaser didn’t give much of the plot away, we do know that Frozen 2 will see Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad, all reprise their respective roles as Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf.
