Interview: Lost Frequencies on his upcoming Dubai performance
The Are You With Me hit-maker tells us why he’s so excited to return to Dubai…
Felix De Laet, also known as Lost Frequencies, will be the Thursday headliner for LUVYA festival, taking place at FIVE Palm Jumeirah next week. Taking place from Thursday December 12 to to Saturday December 14, the three-day festival promises an array of music, food, art and fashion experiences unlike anything seen before in Dubai.
What’s On caught up with the Belgian producer ahead of his upcoming show, to discuss music, skydiving, and plans for 2020.
What’s On: Hey Felix, how’s it going?
Lost Frequencies: It’s great. I’m super excited to come to Dubai, I’m really looking forward to it.
WO: You’re no stranger to performing in Dubai and it’s great to have you back again. What do you think it is that keeps bringing you back?
LF: I have a really close relationship with all the guys from FIVE Palm Jumeirah, so when they told me about LUVYA festival, I felt really blessed that they wanted me to come, play my music and do my thing. I’m super stoked to be able to do this and I’m happy that we have this kind of relationship.
WO: LUVYA is set to be a huge weekend of live music, how does it feel to be part of such an exciting line-up?
LF: I’m super excited to be part this first edition because it’s always super cool to see things grow. I’m super confident that this event will grow bigger and bigger every year.
WO: Are there any artists that you’ve seen live recently that you were really impressed by?
LF: I’ve been to quite a few shows in the last few months while I was at home in Belgium. I love to go to new shows and get inspired, and see how people bring their vibe to a show with different aspects. It’s always super cool to see people on stage and how they act for the crowd.
WO: What can Lost Frequencies fans expect from your upcoming Dubai show?
LF: They can expect a lot of new music from my last album, Alive And Feeling Fine, as well as music from my previous album, Less Is More. I’m also working on an original set-up where I’m going to be playing live guitar on some of the tracks.
WO: What’s your favourite track from your new album?
LF: Sun Is Shining (Deluxe Edit), a lot of people are singing along to this track and that’s always one of my favourite moments.
WO: Many of your songs feature collaborations with big artists, who have you loved working with?
LF: I have very good memories of the collaboration I did with James Blunt, he was so nice and down to earth, and he works very hard.
WO: Is there anyone you haven’t worked with yet that you would like to?
LF: I think it would be great to do a track with Kid Cudi. I really like a lot of the up-and-coming artists right now, there’s a lot of cool singers coming up at the moment and I always try and keep an eye out so hopefully I’ll be able to get in the studio with them.

WO: If you get the chance for some downtime while you’re in Dubai, what would you like to do?
LF: I’d like to see the new harbour, where they’re building a lot of new islands. I also really like to visit to the desert, and last time I really enjoyed going to the Louvre. It’s a very impressive place to be. I also jumped out of a plane over the Palm before, which was such a great experience.
WO: We’re heading into the new year soon, what have you got planned for 2020?
LF: I just released some new music and now I want to get in the studio with some more underground artists, who are open-minded and want to work with me. I’m also going to be working on some music for other people, so I’ll just be spending my time in the studio, making music, doing what I love and going on tour to play DJ sets. I don’t have special plans but I have a special direction I want to go and we’ll see how that works out.
