The Emirates Culinary Guild sent a team of 27 chefs from across the country to compete…

The UAE’s finest culinary talent took centre stage at the Culinary Olympics in Germany this month, delivering no less than 69 medals and a diploma. A handpicked team of 27 star chefs were selected by the Emirates Culinary Guild to take part in the Culinary Olympics, lead by by Emirates Culinary Guild Past President Chef, Uwe Micheel.

The brigade fought off stiff competition from teams from more than 45 countries, including Singapore, Sweden, Norway and Taiwan, to produce 3 Gold with distinction, 39 Gold, 27 silver medals, as well as a Diploma. Their impressive efforts saw the UAE team receive more medals than any other team in the competition, testament to the skill and passion produced by the team.

The three gold medals with distinction, receiving the maximum 100 points, were awarded to chef Thilina Pradeep Kallamullage Fernando of Al Jawaher Reception & Convention Center; Atlantis, The Palm‘s chef Pathma Madushanka Kuma Hennedige; and chef Kameel Rasyid Eril of BKRY.

It’s a huge feat for the entire team of pastry chefs, artists, and chefs from across the Emirates, and another display of the top culinary talent now making waves in the food scene across the UAE.

“The chefs can be very proud of their achievement in Germany,” commented Emirates Culinary Guild President Andy Cuthbert. “As the high quality of the work out shone many on the competition days and the amount of gold medals brought home are testament to the quality and standard of the chefs we are lucky to have in the UAE,” he added.

Speaking of the team’s achievements, culinary team leader Uwe Micheel added, “To lead such a great team of young men and women and be rewarded with so much recognition from the international culinary community, is very rewarding personally and professionally.  It was with pride to fly the UAE flag high again for the 4th time in the Culinary Olympics.”
