Thunder Snow is the first horse to ever win the race more than once…

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and ruler of Dubai had more to celebrate than most this weekend as his Dubai stables, Godolphin, were the winners of the $12 million grand prize at the 2019 Dubai World Cup. Christophe Soumillon was the jockey leading them to a second win in as many years on horse Thunder Snow. It’s the first time a horse has won the race more than once, after Thunder Snow’s memorable victory last year.

Clearly delighted with the achievement, Sheikh Mohammed was seen celebrating the historic win with a victory dance as he lifts the Dubai World Cup.

The race was a close one, with Thunder Snow and Gronkowski flying nose to nose until the final second, when Thunder Snow took the victory.

Sheikh Mohammed also took to Twitter to celebrate the win, congratulating both Godolphin’s Thunder Snow and the UAE, for “hosting the wold’s fastest and best horse race meeting”.

After a record-breaking day of racing, the event was closed by headline act Gwen Stefani. The star performed some of her best known hits including Sweet Escape, What You Waiting For? and Don’t Speak. The night came to an end with a stunning fireworks display.
