Video: The storm in the UAE
Wednesday was a very wet day in the desert, with 240 milimetres of rain falling across the UAE.
Add to that strong winds, flooded roads (even Sheikh Zayed Road!), thunder, lightning and hail, and it was a pretty extreme day for weather all around.
Here’s a compilation of some of the best rain videos from yesterday and today. There’s a bit of everything in this mix – from people making lemonade out of the whole situation (aka, wakeboarding), to waterlogged metro stations and just downright scary winds:
Remember, traffic Abu-Dhabi-bound is incredibly slow moving today, due to waterlogging on Sheikh Zayed Road itself near Jebel Ali. Also of note is the fact that all schools across the UAE remain closed on Thursday.
And what about the weather today? The National Centre for Meteorology says the “intensity of the unstable conditions” have “weakened”. They say there’s a chance of “scattered rain and showers”, but predict nothing more intense. They’re saying that Friday and Saturday should be back to normal too – aka, blue skies all around.
