The UAE is set to host the 22nd International Academy of Astronautics Human in Space Symposium it was announced on Thursday.
The global space conference will bring together experts from around the world to discuss the latest developments in space research.
Taking place in Dubai in 2019, this is the first time the global space conference will be held in the Middle East and North Africa, helping cement the UAE as a major player in a growing global space industry. It has already put in motion plans to send the first Emirati astronaut to the International Space Station by 2019.
The United Arab Emirates will host the 22nd International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) Human in Space Symposium in Dubai 2019. The UAE was chosen as the host due to the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC)’s proposal submission to the IAA. pic.twitter.com/BSf3pgbuSq

His Excellency Yousuf Al Shaibani, director general of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, said “The UAE has become a pioneer in hosting specialised scientific conferences. Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre’s success in hosting the first Human in Space symposium in the Middle East and North Africa, is dedicated to the role played by MBRSC and the UAE in the international space sector.”
Last year’s symposium was held in November Shenzhen in China and was attended by astronauts from six countries as well as researchers from 60 countries.
